Frequently Asked Questions

Short answers for common questions about books, accounts, transactions, backups, privacy, and support.

Getting Started

What is AnLedger?

AnLedger is an offline-first personal and household finance app for Android. It helps track accounts, transactions, categories, budgets, recurring bills and deposits, reports, backups, and imports/exports.

Where is my financial data stored?

Your book data is stored locally on your device. AnLedger does not send your transaction history, account balances, or personal financial records to AnLedger servers.

What is a Book?

A Book is a complete ledger that contains accounts, transactions, categories, budgets, recurring items, reports, and settings.

Can I maintain multiple Books?

Yes. Multiple Books can be used to separate personal finances, household records, small-business activity, special projects, or other financial records.

Accounts and Transactions

What account types are supported?

AnLedger supports common account types such as bank accounts, cash, credit cards, loans, assets, liabilities, and related account categories.

How are transfers between accounts recorded?

Transfers are entered as linked transactions. You select the source account, destination account, and amount, and AnLedger records the corresponding entries so both account balances remain accurate.

How are split transactions handled?

The Split function lets you divide one transaction across multiple categories, projects, or transfer lines. The total of the split lines should match the transaction amount.

Can I enter future-dated transactions?

Yes. Future-dated transactions and recurring bills/deposits can be used for planning and projected balances.

Budgets and Recurring Items

How does budgeting work?

Budgets can be created by category or classification for common periods such as weekly, biweekly, monthly, quarterly, half-year, yearly, or custom date ranges.

How are recurring bills and deposits configured?

Recurring items can include a frequency, next due date, amount, account, payee, category, reminder settings, and automatic-entry settings.

Import, Export, and Backups

Which import formats are supported?

AnLedger supports common personal-finance import formats including QIF, OFX/QFX/OFS, CSV, and AnLedger backup files.

How should I back up my data?

Use the built-in Backup function to create an AnLedger backup file. Store copies in secure locations you control, such as local storage and a trusted cloud folder.

Can transaction data be exported?

Yes. AnLedger can export transaction and report data in formats such as CSV, QIF, PDF, or web page output depending on the screen and export option selected.

Privacy and Support

Does AnLedger require an internet connection?

Core features work offline. Internet access may be used for optional functions such as exchange-rate updates or user-selected sharing/export destinations.

How can users report issues or suggest improvements?

Support and feedback can be sent to app.anledger@gmail.com. When reporting a problem, include the Android version, device model, app version, and the steps that caused the issue if possible.
